I have learned “to do” at such a young age, but it’s only been in the past five years that I have intentionally, daily explored just how to be. The word “just” might appear to minimize what ‘being” is. Still, on the contrary, it highlights the simplicity and gentle care needed for the “being.” It doesn’t take much to be. Still; In the world of extractive, exploitive capitalism, individualism, and distraction after distraction, at first it takes a lot to actually “just be.”
Returning to a memory when my mind wasn’t linked to justifying my existence through production, I return to being school-aged, running around in the woods, talking to the trees and plants. Noticing animals and their behavior- sensing I know what is going on with you even though I was told my language doesn’t match yours.
That’s the last vivid memory I have of being. Since I have been practicing as an adult, my memories of this reside more in the liminal spaces of setting myself up for a process. The constant reminders, “I don’t need to sit at this desk for hours to produce!” The meditations, the journaling. Grabbing the tea and sitting outside underneath the sun. The intentional walks in the neighborhood. Calling a friend. All these tasks one considers doing. It seems we have been so inundated to continuously do, to get out of the incessant hole of action and doing, we must do, before we be.
We must do, before we be.
We must do with intention before we be.
We become what we intend to do.
We must intend to be.
Intention is being.
The paradoxical reality of it is we are always ‘being”, yet there are moments where we are fully in our bodies, present, and alive without doubting, future tripping, or memorializing a past. That too is being. Yet, in those moments we are also possibly suffering or striving for something else but we can’t seem to get out of the “doing” loop.
Therefore, it really isn’t countering, or finding the other thing opposite to what the thing we don’t desire or need is. What it becomes in the essence of practice, is acceptance and intentionally relating to whatever is emerging at a time.
The relationship to the space in between, the liminal, the unknown is where all of creation and the possibility of infinite measures rests. For us to truly be, is for us to rest at the edge of the unknown, be still and empty, wait and become.
This New Moon is a Fire New Moon with many other planets and celestial beings moving in and out of spaces in fiery styles for us to recognize our power, our relationship to creation, expression, and the unknown.
Resting in the unknown, emergent space can be quite healing and transformative. It takes practice for some to get comfortable there. The new social imagination can be seeded here, realizing it will take acceptance of more being than doing to uncover answers to move and become new. This doesn’t mean we don’t “do.” What it means is we slow down and get intentional with ourselves in the becoming process. The moment we realize what we think creates our reality and therefore what we do maps our world- so too does becoming result in the intentional creation of our doing. To be is the intentional seed of creation. It is the sacred inward and outward flow of our breath. To do without being is the unintentional grasping and gasping for air in what and who we think we should become- from programming that only has exploitative intentions to capitalize on.
To realize our full potential on this sacred planet, recognizing our inward and outward flow of breath which is life, is vital. The space we breathe from and into wants nothing of us. As we consider our breath, we truly want nothing from it but to keep the flow. That which is sacred is freely reciprocal. That which is freely reciprocal is life. It is time we become the sacred reciprocity of that which we are, freely reciprocating our gifts to all that is, for all our relations. It is possible to live in a world in which we share our power and build systems to meet all the needs of all beings abundantly. I am ready to live this more and more in my life. Are you?
~

Sacred Reciprocity is an offering I am starting in the Spring of 2025. It is in intentional 1:1, small group, and communal space where people can be and explore their imaginal cells of a caterpillar to butterfly transformative growth or connect with others in their explorations of new social imaginations which we are calling in at this time of change on the planet. If this is something that interests you, there will be more information as the months unfold to sign up for some free offerings. I look forward to being in the community and journeying with you.
